Vintage Copper and Silvertone Abstract Clip Earrings – Modernist Industrial Jewelry

Bold mixed-metal construction gives these unsigned vintage clip earrings their distinctive sculptural presence. Warm copper trapezoid-shaped bases support raised silvertone reliefs formed from looping, interconnected shapes, creating an abstract design reminiscent of twisted wire, ancient symbols or a particularly complicated factory floor plan. Dark oxidation surrounds the raised elements and allows flashes of copper to emerge around the edges. The two designs coordinate without being perfectly identical, adding to their handcrafted, art-jewelry character. The earrings measure approximately 1 1/4 inches high by 3/4 inch wide. They remain in good vintage condition, with light surface wear, oxidation and small areas of patina consistent with age. They are unsigned and have functioning clip backs. Curator’s Note: They may depict a forgotten alphabet, an industrial blueprint or what happens when several paper clips become emotionally entangled. Interpretation is left to the wearer.
