Vintage 1980s Abstract Clip On Earrings – Oversized Metallic Painted Plastic Statement Earrings – New Wave Wearable Art

The 1980s did not believe in whispering—and neither do these spectacular oversized clip-on earrings! Molded from surprisingly lightweight plastic, each earring features a dramatic triangular form layered with raised ribbons, curls and wonderfully unexplained shapes. Metallic gold, magenta, teal and touches of yellow sweep across richly textured surfaces, while coordinating domed tops complete the unapologetically artistic design. Are they abstract sculpture? Deconstructed gift wrapping? A fashionable encounter between a triangle and a plate of spaghetti? We cannot be certain—but they are unquestionably fabulous. Despite their impressive proportions, the earrings are fairly lightweight and fitted with clip-on backs. The original comfort pads remain in place but have compressed with age and could easily be replaced if desired. They are unsigned and in very good vintage condition, showing minor age-appropriate finish wear that blends naturally into their wonderfully busy design. Curator’s Note: These earrings did not arrive to complement an outfit. They arrived to take it over, reorganize it and accept full responsibility for the compliments.
